I have just brought myself a Retrolink N64 controller (http://www.amazon.com/Retrolink-Nintendo-64-Classic-Enabled-Controller/dp/B008L3UUPS/ref=sr_1_1?ie. Retrolink gamecube controller drivers download. Raspberry pi retropie gaming station. Black usb controller wired by retro-link: nintendo 64: computer.
I have been wanting to get into N64 emulation on my Retropie for a little bit but besides all the rom issues I have seen in the past the true biggest barrier is the lack of or my lack of awareness of N64 controller options. I understand I can just map a playstation or xbox controller but the N64 is such a weird beast when it comes to its controller. I find in test theres really no good way to map N64 to controllers. So I am left with the question what are my options with putting existing N64 controllers via some kinda adapter or with USB N64 controllers. I see the 8bitdo version seems to not work at all for most people and has issues with its thumbstick. Are there any other options here?

Perhaps instead of booting into a CLI, have the installer download ALL of the software packages during the installation. This would be an invaluable tool for performing system installations on lower-end machines that do not have a DVD player. There may also be a way to choose which desktop environment you would like installed during the download and installation process, similar to the Debian XFCE/LXDE netinstall disk. This is how the Debian and PC-BSD netinstall disks install. Debian editions may have room for experimentation with this sort of technology.:) 7 years ago I think this is a good idea.
